The hierarchical relation between items in a parent-component relationship to depict the configuration of the parent item, or the items associated with it. Three types of item-item relationships are supported by AssetWise:

• Horizontal relationships between items. For physical items, this denotes a object breakdown structure and, for virtual items, a functional or process breakdown.
• Vertical relationships which denote the relation of a virtual item with a physical item.
• Item links which denote the relationship of a physical item to another item, other than for defining a configuration.
